Sample flashcard
In a hybrid network, which threats belong only to the cloud/SaaS side: rootkits, insecure APIs, ARP spoofing, misconfigured storage buckets, or co-resident VM side channels?
Insecure APIs, misconfigured storage buckets and co-resident VM side channels. Rootkits, USB drops and ARP-spoofing MITM are on-premises threats.
Sample practice question
An attacker phishes the password of a staff accountant. The same identity provider account signs the user into the remote-access VPN, the Microsoft 365 tenant and the company's AWS console through SSO. Which statement BEST describes how the hybrid environment changes the impact of this phish?
- A. SSO turns a credential theft into an attack class unique to the cloud
- B. One stolen identity now opens many systems, so the blast radius grows
- C. Impact is lower because SaaS sessions cannot reach on-premises data
- D. The cloud provider is responsible for stopping misuse of the credential
Answer: B. The attack itself is ordinary credential phishing; what changes is that one identity is the key to the VPN, the SaaS tenant and the cloud console, so identity has become the perimeter. Account protection is the customer's job under shared responsibility, SSO does not create a new attack type, and access to the VPN plainly reaches on-premises systems.
